Who doesn’t love summer? Whether it be a break from school, warm weather, beach days, or BBQs with family, there is something for everyone to look forward to. However, because there are endless possibilities, what exactly are the essential activities? Have no fear, because I am here to save your summer season with my top 5 summer must-dos.

1. Travel!

Did you have to postpone that long-awaited Euro trip last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic? Yes? Welcome to the club, sister. But this summer, I have good news!  International travel is opening up again, and now is the best time to book flights for this summer and the summers to come.

However, COVID-19 is still a huge concern for many, vaccinated or not, so knowing which countries to visit is extremely important. Here is a link to the CDC’s website where you can find each country ranked based on their coronavirus cases:  CDC's COVID-19 Travel Recommendations by Destination.

2. Catch a movie!

I recently went to the movie theater for the first time since the pandemic began, and it was honestly nostalgic. It really warmed my heart to experience a movie again in theaters with a bucket of overly buttered popcorn, $8 water bottles, and annoying people who have horrible movie theater manners. No, seriously, I missed it. I've seen The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It and In the Heights in theaters this past month. Both are incredible, and I 100% recommend them. Wondering if theaters are open near you? Check this website out: Cinema reopening dates around the world: latest updates.

Looking for a more cozy, less crowded place to watch movies but still leave your house? Drive-in movies are making a comeback! Here in Miami, there are only around six drive-in theaters but they definitely are unique summer must-dos.

3. Happy Hour time!

Who doesn’t love a good happy hour, amirite!? Eating out was a luxury during the pandemic, but now we have the opportunity to return to them. Do some research and visit the restaurants you never had the chance to but always wanted to. Happy Hour Finder and Scoutmob are two awesome apps to help you find the nearest happy hour and deals on meals. Ditch Yelp and Foursquare for these cool apps. And don't forget to support local small businesses, because they need our help the most!

4. Give back!

Even before the coronavirus pandemic, so many organizations and causes needed our help. Now, more than ever, organizations are in need of funds, supplies, and manpower. This summer, take some time to give back to your community. So much has happened this past year, and I am grateful to be healthy and safe. Thus, I vow to help in any way that I can. Attached is a list of foundations looking for donations. Feel free to give as much or as little as possible.

5. Go outside and explore!

Quarantine has made many of us homebodies. There’s no denying it. This summer, force yourself to get out of the house and explore Mother Nature’s goodies. Go for a bike ride around your city/town or along the beach or biking trails. Go for a walk with your family through the forest or a nearby park. Go to the beach, lake, or swimming hole. Resume pre-coronavirus activities and get out there safely, of course!

Do you want to go outside but are still avoiding large crowds? I have the perfect idea for you. Go camping in your backyard! The little ones will love it!

I hope you enjoyed reading, and hopefully, this gives you and your family some ideas on what to do this summer to make it your best one yet, because we all deserve it!
