Hey Decocrated, Becca of www.drivingmissmacey.com here again! It was 100+ degrees here in Seattle this past week, which is not normal weather for us pacific northwesterners! With it finally feeling like summer here, it got me thinking about kid friendly activities for summer. I thought I’d share some of our family favorites with you today!

Visit a local farms u pick

This type of adventure is always my favorite because you can pack light and snacks are included! Our favorite is the strawberry u pick, typically happening in July. Dress the kids in something you won’t mind getting stained with fruit juice and some sunscreen and you’re on your way! Then, leave with ingredients you can immediately use in some yummy summer treats, our favorite is strawberry rhubarb pie!

Stay cool at a splash pad We’ve been to a few splash pads this summer already and the kids are obsessed! I can always count on anything water related to be a hit with the kids. These splash pads are a solid choice because they allow for 98-100% independence for your kids, even the younger ones, which is so key to mama enjoying her time too, amiright!? ;) Just dress them in their favorite rash guard or swim suit, lather on the sunscreen, and grab some water proof shoes. It’ll be a blast!

Make custom popsicles

Yessss, this is a good one! Popsicle making is a favorite in our family, not only because it’s yummy, but because this activity gives your kid(s) some creative power! Simply gather the juice, fruit, sparkling water, even candy (!!) that your kids enjoy and let them build their popsicle just the way they want it! You can use popsicle molds or simply make bite sized popsicles with an ice cube tray and toothpicks/craft sticks! Our favorite combinations are 1) cranberry juice (usually watered down) + chunks of oranges, 2) flavored sparkling water + grapes, or 3) chocolate milk + banana chunks! It’s the perfect way to cool down!

Go ice skating, yes, I said ice skating

Ice skating is usually thought of as a winter activity but it’s the perfect way to cool down on a hot summer day. I’ve been taking my four year old daughter Macey every Friday this summer and it’s been an amazing way for us to bond and spend time together, plus stay cool! For smaller kids they usually have “walkers” they can use to balance and push around the ice. Macey uses one and loves the freedom is gives her on the ice. I highly recommend trying out the ice rink this summer!

What do you love to do with the kids in the summertime? Leave us a comment, we’d love to know!

xoxo, Becca
