With the state of the world and the pattern of everyday life being so up in the air these days, I have been leaning on my routines more than ever it seems! I am absolutely a “go-with-the-flow” type of gal but I do love myself some structure! One of the most sacred routines for me right now is my nighttime routine. Having my own bedtime routine helps me calm down, ready myself for bed, and quiet that ever-running mind of mine! This is what works for me right now, but it is also ever-evolving! We’d love to hear what works for you too!
Phone Goes Away
I usually start winding down and getting ready for bed by plugging my phone into its charger. Months ago I moved my charger into the kitchen so that I wouldn’t be tempted to take my phone with me to bed. This has not only helped me get to sleep faster but it also keeps my bedtime anxiety down. I know I spend a lot of time on my phone during the day, so releasing myself from that as I approach bedtime is so key for slowing my mind and getting a good night's sleep.
Joy-Filled Skincare
I am not great at washing my face every night HOWEVER when I started using my oil cleanser I for sure started washing it more! As a woman in my early 30’s I’m just starting to nail down a skincare routine that works for me and gets me excited to take care of my skin! My cleanser was the first product I fell in love with as I was building my routine. It has such a yummy smell and turns milky when you activate it with warm water. It feels like a spa on my face and hydrates my dry skin like a champ! I look forward to this little self-care moment every night, it not only makes me feel relaxed but it also gets me prepared for going to bed. I usually follow cleansing with a hydrating nighttime cream. Then I brush my teeth.
Plan Tomorrow’s Outfit
My husband laughs at me every time because I still change at least three times before leaving the house but I try to plan (either in my head or by setting it out) my next day’s outfit in advance. It's one thing that will help me prepare for my morning routine. I still end up changing or tweaking my plan almost every time but I do think it streamlines the process a little bit more!
Pillow Talk With My Husband
My husband and I have this joke that his mind shuts off at night and mine shifts up to full speed. We learned early on that I needed to decompress by spilling my day to him right before we fall asleep. This was a habit I’ve had since childhood (used to spill my guts to my parents at night too) and I’m thankful to have a partner who is always prepared to listen! I need it to decompress, wind down, and ease my brain into sleep mode.
After all this, I usually confirm the wake-up time for the next morning with my husband, set our alarms, and roll towards the cool side of the bed for a peaceful sleep. :)
How do you decompress for the night? Whether it be a book, lighting a candle, or a warm cup of tea - we’d love to hear about it! Tell us below!
xoxo,
Becca
