The fall season is a special time of year that brings many traditions for families to enjoy. It's the perfect chance for family members to get together and celebrate what they love about autumn, from pumpkin picking and apple cider doughnuts to roasting chestnuts over an open fire. In this blog post, we will explore some of the most popular fall traditions in North America.

Cozy Movie Night

There are many Fall traditions that families can enjoy. One of the most popular for my family is a cozy movie night. On a cool Fall evening, gather up the family and enjoy some popcorn before snuggling on the couch together to watch a Fall movie. Some favorite movies we enjoy watching are It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and Hocus Pocus. There is nothing more relaxing than spending an evening at home with the people you love most and cozy movies are the perfect Fall tradition to kick it off.

Fall Festivals

Another Fall tradition that many families enjoy is Fall Festivals. Fall festivals are often held at state fairgrounds, outdoor parks, or even in your backyard. They typically include games and activities suitable for all ages - from corn hole to carnival rides. These games and activities can be as competitive or relaxed as you want them to be. Fall festivals are a wonderful way of getting the whole family together and letting loose for an evening. Many traditional Fall foods are available, including hot apple cider, Fall-themed candy, Fall pies, and Fall donuts. Fall festivals are an excellent way to kick off a weekend with your loved ones.

Pumpkin Patch & Corn Mazes

Many pumpkin patches also include a corn maze, which is fun for both adults and children alike. These involve walking through a maze created out of Fall crops and then going to the pumpkin patch to get your first pumpkins of the season! These activities typically take up most of the day, so it's important to plan accordingly with food and drinks for your family. Pumpkin Patch/Corn Maze is a great Fall tradition for families to enjoy together because they require teamwork to be successful. The best pumpkin patches usually have a wide variety of pumpkins to choose from, and many corn mazes include a map to help you get through the maze faster.

Pumpkin Carving/Painting

Fall pumpkins are so much more than a decoration - you can transform them into something beautiful. Pumpkin carving is a tradition that my family and I look forward to every year. My kids like to see who can make their pumpkin the spookiest. Pumpkin painting is another tradition that my kids enjoy because it's creative and fun. Plus, they love getting messy with paint! Fall pumpkins are usually a lot larger than Summer or Spring pumpkins, which means your child can use their imagination to design something truly special.

Bonfire/Hayride/Roast Marshmallows

It's the perfect Fall activity for families because people of all ages can enjoy it. Bonfires are typically built-in fire pits or large metal barrels, depending on where you live. After the sun sets, gather your family around the bonfire as everyone roasts Fall-themed candy. Our family likes having a hayride afterward. My kids like going on little adventures in our backyard during the hayride. Some pumpkin patches or apple orchards will even have hayrides that come with your admission.

Fall is a time of year when families get together to celebrate many holidays. It's also the perfect season for family traditions, which can last a lifetime and create memories that will be cherished by generations to come. This blog has given you some ideas for fall traditions you might want to consider starting with your family this October!
